About

The formal biography:
Born in New Zealand before moving to Melbourne, Australia at the age of 5, Tom D'Ath has just completed his Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Clarinet Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Tom finds himself comfortable in any musical situation. His rigorous musical upbringing through the music program at Eltham High School exposed him to a wide range of musical styles and ensembles including jazz, classical chamber music, wind band, and solo performance. 2018 has seen Tom tour to Singapore and Shanghai with the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, attend the Australian Festival of Chamber Music Winterschool as a part of Ensemble Contineo, perform as a part of the Australian National Academy of Music Orchestra, and commission and perform new Australian works as a member of six-four.

Outside of Tom's busy performance schedule, he maintains a small private teaching studio, and records audio and video for many of his colleagues.

Informal about me:
From a young age I have been particularly passionate about playing the clarinet, which has led me down the path I am pursuing: a career in the performing arts.

Teaching

My teachers throughout my education have infleunced my decisions to pursue music from a young age. It's because of this that I have always taken an interest in how I can best convey the passion and I drive I possess on the clarinet to those treading the same path I did when I was younger.

My teaching aims to leverage digital platforms to track and enhance the outcomes agreed upon with my students. That could range from audition preparation for university, to learning music for a community ensemble, or recording some music for a loved one.

All lessons are recorded and made available for each of my students, along with additional resources such as recordings, sheet music, and literature to encourage study both with and without the instrument.
